Independent contractor when in OPT

Hi,

I am an international student, currently on OPT. I am offered an independent contractor position in a start up company. Can I take it? Will this pose any potential risk for my OPT stem Extension/ H1b sponsorship? Also can I travel out of Country if I work as independent contractor on OPT?

You should be on W-2, full time employee.
