What kind of stories and books will you write? My neighbor wrote poetry and used the pen name Joy Mirth.

Why not use your real name?

Why a pen name? Why don't you want people to know who you are when you write?

A great pen name if you want to make it clear that it's not your real name "Jane Doe, or John Doe".

Personally, as an aspiring author myself, when I'm published I want everyone to know it's me.

Yes I have written many things, just not published. Many books and short stories. My friend is published and I write many things with her as well. I am a teenager.

Is your friend traditionally published or self published or did she pay a vanity press to publish?

I've always used my real name when I wrote something and got it traditionally published. It's easiest when the publisher sends advance money and royalty checks, although having a pseudonym on an account is not a huge problem for a bank. I guess I use my real name because I am proud of what I write and like it when people connect my writings with me.

I am not real clear on why you want a pseudonym.

And how are you going to get published?

I don't like all these excess questions... All I wanted was an answer.

They are important questions to at least think about before using a pen name.

A pen name should be your choice and feel right for you, feel good when you say it. The romance writer Cathie Linz uses her real first name, but her real last name is hard to pronounce. One of her favorite places in the world is Linz, Austria, and the nearby Alps, so she changed her last name to Linz.

    Romance Writer Cathie Linz

Which name combination feels right for YOU?

    Avery B. Whyman
Avery because it's not clearly female. Whyman sounds good for a mystery writer, although maybe a little contrived.
