When I pulled the stem, the 1" detachable cartridge stayed down the "silo". I have tried several ways of pulling it up, but seems very stuck. Any suggestions, please

Go out an purchase an EASY OUT tool (see image)... should help in removing that stubborn sleeve! If that fails to work, you can try purchasing a properly sized TAP tool and tap the sleeve in about an inch or so and then use a correctly sized bolt to spin into the cut threads and then pull the sleeve out...;)
