    Miles per hour
If you travel at 40 mph for the first 20 miles of your 40 mile trip and 60 mph for the last 20 miles of your trip , what is your average mph?

Heck, even I know how to solve this one, and I suck at math.

Did you learn how to figure out averages? Apply what you learned.

Post your work, and your answer here. We'll critique it. But we won't do the work for you, it's against our rules. It's your work, you have to at least try to do it.

Sorry Alty, but your answer is incorrect. The answer is not simply the average of the two speeds.

Laabott: the answer comes from s = d/t, as ma0641 said, where d = total distance traveled and t = total time taken. So start by determining the time required for each segment, and add them together to get the value for 't'. The value for 'd' is simply the sum of distances of the two segments. Post back with your answer and we'll check it for you.

Darnit, and for just a second I felt I had math figured out. You burst my bubble ebaines! ;)
