Installed a DVD drive, worked, shutdown - Now black
    Hello,

There was a DVD drive installed on my computer, it worked fine but then I shutdown and this morning restarted it and it tries to boot up but then there is just a black screen with the white cursor flashing.
I assume that it is trying to boot up from the DVD drive? So I went into setup and it straight away asked: Please select boot device.
    Options:
    CD/DVD: SM-HL-DT
    CD/DVD:SS-Aopen
    1st Floppy drive
    USB: Spring multicard slot A0100
    USB: Spring multicard slot D0100
    USB: Spring multicard slot S0100
    HDD: PM-ST340014A
Network: IBA FE Slot 0140 v4110

Which should I select? And will it fix the problem?

    Thank you,
    Elaine

I'm not sure, so don't try, but your hard- drive should be HDD: PM-ST340014A wich should contain windows (or any other OS)...
Try it if you think it might work. My experience of computers is that they are VERY hard to completley ruin. BUT, there is always a chanse. *yells at capuchin*

    Could an EXPERT confirm/reject this??

Try the HDD as the first choice. But I don't necessarilly think that's the problem. Unless it was set ONLY to boot from the optical drive, it should bypass that and go to the hard drive. So the problem may be elsewhere.

If there is a DVD in the drive, make sure it is out before rebooting..

Yeah, you have to wait for a while. If there is any cd or DVD in the drive just take it out at the time of shutdown or restart. I think it wll work. If there is no cd the computer easily booted.

As per your thinking you may choose the Floppy as 1st boot device. It will not check the cd/dvd roms for booting.

If my suggestion works, please inform me.

    HDD: PM-ST340014A

This most likely should work unless there is another problem.
