I have one employee who stores all of our business files on their personal laptop. How do I get my files off their computer? Can I confiscate the laptop, remove my files and return the laptop?

How did the files come to be there? Where is the laptop? Do you plan on terminating the employee?

The employee was told that they could use their personal laptop for work. Employee takes laptop home when not working in the office. We are planning to terminate employee and the backup that is supposed to stay in the office is not there. We are afraid to say anything about the backup, because we don't want to create suspicion at this point.

So the next time the employee comes in you take him into a room and give the laptop to your IT person.
