I was cited for driving without a license in Ohio, after driving someone home from an AA meeting. I am on supervised probation in a different county, where they suspended my license. They did give me privileges to drive to AA meetings, though. I have not yet told my P.O. but plan to on my meeting with her Tuesday. The officer who gave me the ticket said my P.O. will not find out about it, but I am not so sure. This would be a violation of my probation, but I am unsure whether she would send me to jail for it. What do you think?

They are going to find out... driving on a suspended license requires a court appearance and has the potiential of jail time on its own in certain states.

THey always pull your records and its going to reflect it... and they are likely to contact the PO as they will know about your restrictions as well as your record / warrants, etc.

Virginia is one of them.. ( I've seen more than a few taken off and booked from traffic court to serve a year in jail immediately upon losing their case)... Unless the person you were driving lived next door... you were ONLY allowed to drive from point A (your house) to point B (your AA meeting place)... not detour through point C (their house)

Yes, I figured she would find out about it. Do you have any idea of whether she would revoke my probation? And even though I was suspended, the officer wrote it up as if I drove on an expired license. This could just be a MM (minor misdemeanor).

Its really up to them... if you have kept your nose clean... and done everything as required even before it needed done... they will be less likely to do it.

Meaning they can... but if they actually will?

Yes, I haven't had any problems while on probation and passed every urine test given. I will also be telling her before she finds out on her own, which I figured will help me out. The case may also be getting thrown out, and if that happens will it be any problem at all?

I'll be honest... I can't answer that. But it does make you look look better if they hear it from you first.

In this yeah it's hard to answer the question cause in this case it's 50/50. Just depends on the officer that cited you for the ticket and depends on your Probation Officer. The Officer that gave you a ticket might actually be honest. Most officers won't spend the time to call your PO to tell on you. As long as you can keep in touch with your PO as regular as your doing you shouldn't have to tell her. Can you get jail time for suspended license yes but very unlikely. Most the time you just get a fine. I'd say 95 percent of the time you get a fine. Just pay it and keep doing what your suppose to and you'll be fine. IT REALLY DOES DEPEND ON YOUR PO AND HOW YOU FEEL YOUR PO IS.

To add more: If you feel your PO is cool and hasn't been giving you a hard time about nothing then yeah I would just tell him/her. He/She may just be like just take care of it over there and keep seeing me and keep "SHOWING ME THE MONEY"! If you feel your PO is a booty head yeah I wouldn't say nothing and just go to court in the other county and keep seeing the PO like nothing happened. If it were me I wouldn't tell on myself is what I'm saying. Unless you feel your PO is cool cause it depends on your PO cause my PO was cool and helped me out a lot and she was very understanding. Most PO's are because they are not the police. Cause I know your just trying to figure your way around it. To avoid anymore complications been there it is stressful.

While we appreciate your advice on this board, it must be CORRECT advice. The above is NOT. It's not even close. In fact, if the OP followed your advice and got caught, his probation would be violated IMMEDIATELY.. You don't wanna do that to our clients, do you???

To be clear, EVERY probationer in the country is REQUIRED to report ALL police contact.
