Potential Employer asking for my last year W-2
I interviewed for a support position with a county school board in FL. Interview went great and they called all my references and seems like I'm the one they want. Now HR called me and wants a copy of my w-2? I've never heard of anyone requesting this when hiring new employees. The salary range was posted in the job advertisement. The range is more than I make now and they did ask for current salary before I interviewed. I've never heard of this business practice of asking for a w-2? Why would they need this?

It's a way of verifying your salary from your old job. However, if they give you a job offer the salary should be determined by your qualifications and experience, not your salary history. It would be hard to say no to their request, but I suggest that you call the hiring manager and ask why the W2 is needed. You might also suggest that you'd be happy to let them have a copy after a job offer is made.

I already sent it. The job is a perfect for my experience and skills. I pretty much knew after the interview that the director (the person I would report to) really like me. She called my references and each one afterwards they told me congratulations that she basically said I was the one she wants. It's a government job and the salary range was posted on the advertisement. I want the job but I don't want to get screwed on the salary in the beginning.
