    Ejector Pump Smells
I had a bathroom installed 9 years ago (plumber installed an ejector pump). There is a bad smell emanating from the pump. I've used Rid-X but it doesn't seem to help. What else can I do?

    Hi Sam

Are we talking strictly a bad odor at the ejector pit itself or at the fixtures connected to the ejector pit?

Does the ejector pit have a dedicated ejector pit vent that goes through the roof? If so, and it is easy/safe to do so, check to be sure it is not clogged.

In terms of basic odors, you could try flushing some bleach down the toilet... let that sit for a couple hours and then repeat a few times.

Then, you would check the ejector pit SEALS. Here, there is a seal under the lid... may need to be replaced. In fact, zoeller sells a new seal KIT that has the seals for the pipes and the lid (check for it at Zoeller Corporation).

You could also use a flexible, clear silicone and go around the ejector lid, the pipes, the pipe flanges and the rubber grommet that seals the wires going into the pit.

All these things combined should resolve the issue. Start with step 1 (bleach) and move forward as needed until the odor(s) disappear.

    Good luck!
