Hi, I am 19 years old, I have a history of not getting a period for long periods at a time, I had ovarian cysts on both ovaries and now I am currently on birth control to help with all of that. I just had a major stomach surgery and they found out that I have something called Retrograde Menstruation and that I was at risk for getting endometriosis. I just had a couple questions... Is there any cure or anything to treat it? Does it cause any problems down the line? Should I wait to start trying for a baby when I actually get diagnosed with endometriosis or should I not take the chance at all and start trying. When does it start to cause problems?

When I was 15 I was put on birth control to help with irregular, painful, heavy periods. I had ovarian cysts also. Over time, the cysts ruptured and caused major scar tissue which I had to have surgery to remove. They told me I would never be able to have children but I eventually did get pregnant. Once at 23 and again at 27. Between the two pregnancies, I had to have 2 more surgeries to remove scar tissue from endometriosis. After my second child it got worse and I ended up having a complete hysterectomy. It was the best thing I could have ever done. I felt so much better and started to enjoy life again.

I've read that sometimes pregnancy will cause endometriosis to go away but that wasn't the case for me.

Beyond your diagnosis have you talked to your doctor about this? I hate to say it but most of us here are trained or knowledgeable enough to answer your questions. It can be dangerous too, if we think it is one thing and it's another... you could make poor life choices.

According to a PBS medical program I saw on TV, there are new advances in treatment of endometriosis all the time, but because there is so much variety in the condition, it is impossible to generalize. I did get the impression that some medical centers and doctors are more current than others with all the latest knowledge.
This is the sort of thing that you may benefit from chat rooms with other women. They aren't hard to find around the internet. But be very careful that even though you may learn a lot, you need to take everything with a grain of salt.
The fact that you had 'major stomach surgery' and didn't even say for what has me concerned that you don't realize how connected all parts of your body are, and how your history is extremely important. It isn't necessary to tell us what that was for, but please keep in mind that you need to be very informed, from your own doctor(s), before you go online to ask questions and share information.
