So I'm a total control freak and my boyfriend flushed a condom in its wrapper down the toilet and I have a septic system. It's been 2 days and it hasn't come up and it's flowing fine my questions are
1.) is there a possibility it can clog and I'm screwed
2.) could it come back up through the pipes? (It's stuffed in the wrapper)
3.) could they find it some other way?

NO, its in the septic tank and will stay there until you have the tank pumped. Something you should do about every 5 years.

How do you know if your toilet is draining/ refining to the correct point? Will it make a sound?

If I have a clog or block will I have the correct drainage/ refilling levels in my toilet ? Will it make any sounds?

It is draining correctly when everything disappears.

What does refining mean?

The refill level in the tank is purely a function of the float level. Nothing else.

Below the adjusted level the valve opens... when it gets to the adjusted level it shuts the water off.

What kind of sounds do you mean....I've never heard a silent one yet.

Once the tank is full there shouldn't be any sounds at all if there is a partial clog or not... they are completely unrelated.

If you hear water running at intervals you have a leaking flapper valve. A few drops of food coloring into the tank will let you know....if you see ANY of it in the bowl after sitting overnight before you flush you have a leak.

When the tank and bowl are refilling you will hear the sound of water running. Some toilets are a little louder than others but all make a little noise.

Quit worrying, your toilet is OK. Just tell you boyfriend the house rule is.
"Don't put anything down the toilet that you haven't eaten first."

SHe's got more to worry about with the fact condoms are only 80% effective... than if one is going to block the toilet drain.


If she's in a house with a septic system... its going to be in it for a very long time.

We had our tank cleaned out last year, and my oh my... what had floated to the top of the cleanout? You got it... condoms. The kids had some explaining to do!
