    4 point inspection
To get homeowners insurance in Florida, you must get a 4 point inspection if the home is 50 years old. Roof- Air Conditioning- Plumbing-Electrical. Many senior citizens are scared to death, they are not up to code and would cost them thousands of dollars. the roofing and the AC I understand. this 1957 house I wonder if it has knob and tube electrical wiring, or in plumbing it has polybutylene piping. Where can you check those things. One code violation was having a electrical Panel with missing breakers, it just had extra room for adding an additional breaker. What wrong with that.

A house built in 1957 would not have knob-and-tube wiring, as knob and tube was phased out of residential use in the 1930's. Most likely it has BX armored cable. You should be able to see it where it enters the breaker panel/fuse box, or you can take off an outlet cover plate to see what kind of wiring it is.

Regarding polybutylene plumbing - it was used from 1978 - 1995, so a home built in 1957 shouldn't have it. Nevertheless, here's an article on how to tell if you do have it: Polybutylene Plumbing - What is Polybutylene?

As for a missing breaker - if the knockout in the panel was open but nothing installed it's a safety issue, as it would be possible to stick your finger in there and be electrocuted.

My guess would be Romex, non metallic sheathed cable. What color is the plumbing? PB is usually grey plastic. Typically a "missing " breaker means a hole in the panel face. You can buy a filler piece at HD or Lowe's.

Or you can purchase a breaker, install it but leave it unused. Cost a couple dollars more but probably easier to find than cover plate and you will have it if you ever need it.
