    I think I partially understand... how or why would one embed a video?
    Would I be able to save a video say, in an email, for future viewing using embedding?

    No. You are referring to using the actual video file which is typically too big to send by email. Embedding streams the data,

    So, I could embed a video in a post and it will play without linking to the page it came from?
    Like, here for example (funny video by the way!) it just played and didn't take me to another page.
    Is that the idea?

    Yep, that's it. In the Youtube case they usually have the YouTube logo that people can click on to go to the page (to see comments or description details for example).
