A lady is running for APWU president in our area. She held a state position but was not paying local dues. Now the local has paid her arrearages so that she may run for president. Isn't this illegal? She shouldn't be allowed to run for office. What do you say?

Relative to the APWU union, are you considered a member in good standing if you are not paying union dues? It has been stated that the union constitution has no stipulations relative to that. What do you say?

No, as paying your dues is what entitles you to membership of said union.

Thanks for your reply. Here's the situation. This person has not paid dues. Therefore, she is not in good standing. Now she runs for president and pays the money that should have been paid all along. She pays in a lump sum. Does this override everything and suddenly make her a member in good standing so that she may seek the presidency?

You said that the local has paid her dues. Therefore she is in good standing. How the dues got paid would perhaps be a good argument against voting for her.

If the dues were paid, then she is a member in good standing. Why the Union paid her dues is an issue for the union to answer and reasons to not vote for her. But since the dues were paid its legal for her to run.
