    Movie from the '80s
I looking for a movie I watched as a kid. It was a weird movie about another world behide the walls. They was hearing noise and hired someone to come check it out, he cut a whole in the wall to explore. He tied a string so he could find he way out. Once in the other world there was strange people and it was like a jungle or forest

    Sounds like a part
    Of the movie,

    House II
    -view-
A man inherits a haunted house an discovers
not only is it haunted , it also has several gateways
    to bizarre dimensions.
During a routine check an electrician (John Ratzenberger) stumbles into
a dimensional rift ,finds himself in a deadly swashbuckling adventure
and takes it all in stride as if he encounters such things every day.

I know this is a shot in the dark, but it sounds like the movie House or House part 2.
