    Toy story woody in 1975
Watching a 1975 British film Man about the house yesterday I spotted one of the characters wearing a denim shirt with Woody on the back, I even froze the TV to double check. Now I need to know how that can be when everything I read says Woody didn't exist till 1995 even woodys roundup 1950s program was an invention for toy story. Can anybody help solve this puzzle?

    Hi~
Is it possible that it was an image of Howdy Doody?
They don't look that much alike, but they are similar..

Do you mean the word 'Woody' or an actual image of the character from the animated movie?

It was an embroidered picture of Woody on the back of a denim shirt.

A Man About the House was a 1947 movie. Was the one you watched in black and white?

(An image, and the name 'Woody' on the shirt? or just an image...)
Man About the House is kind of risqué isn't it? Any chance it was an image of Woody Woodbury? (This is off an old match book... )

A possible answer is that the people who wrote the animated feature Toy Story, may have seen that move when younger and they remembered the image in developing the character.

Now, the question would be whether they violated copyright laws in doing so. Maybe they licensed the image or got permission from the producers.

There is nothing new under the sun.

It would be great if you could somehow post the image... not quite sure how that could be done...
