My ex wants some money out of the car
I had a car accident and had my car written off. My ex boyfriend and I found a car that we liked and so he paid through bank transfer amount of 13,000 to the vw garage when my cheque came through from my insurance I then gave my boyfriend 3,000 towards the car as he knew I didn't have anymore money to out towards it. All the document of the car are in my name, he said the rest of the money (10,000) was a gift and not to worry about paying him back as we were planning to live together. Since then we have split and he wants his 10,000 back. I have no money to give him, I'm a single parent of three children ( not his kids) what can I do and where do I stand because I would never of bought a car with him if I knew he was going to ask for the money back.

Remind him he said it was a gift, and politely tell him not to expect you to pay him. Do so in writing.

From your spelling of "cheque", I assume you are not in the U.S. However, and wherever you are, If he sues you, it's his word against yours, but I believe the court may well want some proof from him that you agreed to pay him back.

I did not sign or agree to pay back any money as he said from the start that it's a gift from him to me. I gave him 3,000 towards it and the rest he said was a gift as he knew I couldn't afford this card. There is no way if proof from his side as I haven't signed a single thing. Thank you for you help and time, I'm very grateful
