    Estate Financial abandonment
My husband left our files for divorce and changed legal residence 2 years ago. He helped with some finances for the 1st two months then refused to contribute anything... leaving me stuck with all the work, responsibilities and bill taxes and insurance. I just heard abandonment was something to be considered?

    What you heard was incorrect.

Back a century or two, one needed to be able to prove specific grounds for a divorce. Abandonment was one of them. That's a thing of the past. Now one can get a divorce simply by asking for it.

Is the divorce still in process with the court?

Abandonment is just grounds for divorce, but as AK noted, grounds are seldom needed these days.

Have you filed for divorce? If so, what is the status?

Any question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.
