Ask Me Help Desk - What can I do?

Hi everyone. I come back again now with a different kind of problem.

I'm a Christian from the assemblies of God since I was born as well as my whole family. As you may have read from my previous threads, I am gay and no one is aware about it except some friends. I met a guy some six months back and with me, I took him along to the church with me (I made him convert). He had a root in the church itself so it was easy for him to adapt to the church. Me and my boyfriend we uses to do everything together. We go to the church then stroll around then each one go home.

The thing is that, Sunday, a guy whom I had never talked with before but I always see at the church sent me a message on Facebook. The guy is married and has a little girl. He is around 20-35.. He sent me a message saying "Repent for your acts before it's too late". When I saw this message, I was scared and disturbed. I replied him back and said "Why did you say that? Have I done something wrong? ". After one day, he replied me back and said "I heard that you are gay ". I was shocked! I then replied him with a confuse mood saying "What?..Its my friends who told you that, isn't it?, they are being jokey ! ". My friends (Those not aware of me being gay) used to just joke around with me telling me that I'm gay but I knew they were joking because telling someone gay is the main joke at school but they didn't mean it! The guy of Facebook also know these guys, so I told myself that maybe those guys told him so because they see me everyday walking around with my boyfriend (who pretend to be a friend), or MAYBE he just knows it!

What should I do? I'm feeling guilty but I love my boyfriend. What should I do with that Facebook guy? How to make things right with the church and me being gay? Will I have to stay alone for my whole life? HELP ME!

First off I am gay and have struggled with the same things you are struggling with now. My Grandfather was a preacher and in my church it is wrong to be gay.

Second thing - the guy that messaged you on Facebook. Forget about him. Don't speak to him, don't message him, and don't worry about what his narrowminded opinions are. He needs to worry about himself and not cast judgement on you. Period end of story.

So many people who recently accept that they are gay or struggle with being gay see being gay as their whole being. Being gay is just a small part of who you are and it is a small part of who I am. I am also a great partner to someone, a great father, an awesome tennis player, and I have a ton of talents. So don't you and don't allow anyone else limit you to being gay and only gay. Because you are so much more.

If you grew up in the church you know that God loves everyone. Jesus was able to forgive those that put him on the cross, he forgave a guy on the cross, and Saul was a murderer and was forgiven and became Paul. Being gay isn't a choice and it isn't a behavior. It is who we are and God loves us no matter who judges us.

Why make his problems your problem? You are who you are so tell this self righteous b@stard to mind his own business. I am not gay but it doesn't take much for me to stand up for myself.

My dad was a pastor, and I grew up in a church that didn't, and still doesn't, accept gays. But I have no doubt Jesus would have had no problem with gays. I just finished reading a book titled The Wisdom Jesus. In it, the author says we Christians fence ourselves in all the time with our petty rules and misinterpretations of what the Bible actually says and the message Jesus was trying to get across.

Now, reread what Oliver wrote. I couldn't have said it better. And he's been in your shoes.

I too grew up in the church and was taught the hatred. I am not gay but do support equal rights for all. I hope you will find peace and acceptance of yourself.
