    My pilot lite will not stay lite after I replaced the pilot/thermocoupler with a new one because the old one did the same thing

    You need to confirm you are getting the correct voltage from the thermocouple. That voltage is most commonly around 30 millivolts DC. If you are getting the correct voltage & the thermocouple was snugly installed into the gas valve, you probably have a bad gas valve.
