Hi, I have a leaky outdoor faucet. I watched several DIY videos and none of the faucets looked quite like the one I have. It's not a frost-free one. I think it's just old. I tried removing the handle first. It came loose, but won't come off. Then tried loosening the bolt under that, again it came loose, but not off. There is a third section that appears like it will come loose, but even with WD-40, did not budge. Bottom line, I still have a leaky faucet.
Depending on the type of faucet it is then you might be able to rebuild it rather then replace unless the leak is beyond the joint where it goes into the faucet. If you don't know the type it is could you maybe find a picture for reference or post a picture here of it. Depending on the packing inside it can be a cheap fix unless there are other problems going on.
If it is an older sillcock type, turn off the house water or inside faucet, remove the handle -it will pull off. Now, put the handle back on and loosen the stem a bit. Unscrew the packing nut and then unscrew the stem. Replace the washer and repack the stem. All parts such as these are at HD, Lowe's, Ace and others.

I can't get it to unscrew. My uncle told me to get a box wrench and try that. I was using one of those adjustable wrenches and the thing wouldn't budge and I stripped off some of the nut.
What do you mean open the valve? What is that and how do I do it?
