OK this is kind of TMI so sorry. But I have been having vaginal bleeding since 8/22/2013 it was light up until 9/19/2013 it has become very bright red with very large clots. Im starting to worry because it has not stopped. I am not on birthcontrol nor pregnant, does this qualify a visit to my local emergency department or can I wait to see the gyno in a week

I would recommend you seeing a gynecologist ASAP because it could be fibroids, ovarian cyst or a tumor in your uterus. This happened to me. I was having my period every two weeks with blood clots and heavy bleeding I let it go on for a couple of months until my cramps started getting to painful. I went to the gynecologist and I had a tumor in my uterus and fibroids (cyst) in my ovaries. I had to have a hysterectomy and I am barely 25. This might no be ur case. But If you are bleeding very heavy to the point that you are using a few pads an hour then YES I do recommend yo to go to the ER because losing too much blood could be serious and could be life-threatening.

We really can't diagnose on this site, and although the above poster means well, she is not a doctor, and what happened to her does not qualify her to diagnose others. It could be some of the things she mentioned, but it could also be a huge list of other things, some very dangerous, others easily fixed.

Yes, you do need to see a doctor, you should have seen one long before now. It's up to you, but if it were me I'd go to the ER.

I am not diagnosing her with anything. I am just giving my advice as you could see. I did put that this might not be her case and I did suggest she see a doctor.

You could have and should have ended it, at SEE a DOCTOR, listing many serious issues, even if that was YOUR case, is in very poor judgement, since you also did not list some minor issues that could be the cause also.

I agree with hernandezv86 that you should see a GYN sooner rather than later. Her advice made it very clear that her experiences were her own. She made it very clear that OP's case might be different. As for listing minor conditions? The OP has been bleeding for 43 days!

Countless sites are devoted strictly to reproductive health questions. They are full of advice from women who tell their own experiences, and that is GOOD, because as all we women know, the variety of symptoms is enormous, and the medical establishment is often woefully lacking when it comes to diagnosing, and in caring, especially when pain is a factor.

I do want to point out, and should have quoted her post so I can prove it, she edited her post after I posted to include the part saying that the OP's case may not be the same as hers, etc. Her original post did not have that information, and I based my post on what she had originally posted.
