    Being Served a Summons
What kind of summons is served with a check made out to the person being served?

I don't understand what you're saying. Are you saying you received a summons, and a check with that summons?

That's right. My husband says it was a summons including a check made out to him.

Could it have been a supena? I've never heard of being paid to give testimony.

For the experts to give you the advice needed, you are going to have to give more information into the situation.

Including what the case was about, amount of check, what is your husband's relationship to the case, your general local etc.

The only reason I can see for a check being included would be if this was a subpoena for his testimony in a case and he was being reimbursed for transportation and lost wages. Has he tried contacting the lawyer who issued it?

Yes. The check would have been the witness fee which some jurisdictions require that be paid along with the subpoena to testify.

Your husband apparently doesn't understand the difference between a summons and a subpoena. A summons is served on a defendant who is being sued. A subpoena, on the other hand, is served in a witness to testify in a case, normally involving other people (other than the witness) as parties (plaintiff and defendant).

I agree, husband should know what it was and why he got it.

Our jurisdiction does not do that, you collect your witness fee, the day you testify
