My a/c condensation line drains into the guest bathroom sink, to a bronze tee to which the p-trap is attached. The tail pipe of the drain extends so far into the tee that it restricts the drain line opening. Can the tail pipe be shortened?

I would say yes but still unclear what you have. Why doesn't it drain outside?
The air handler/evap coils are in the middle of the house, no good way to get outside with it. The pic is attached, I hope, unless it's embedded, which would be better!
Yes, the gray 1.25" "tail pipe" from the sink pop-up assembly can be cut... just don't cut it too short! I would suggest using a hacksaw blade for this... quick and easy without any major vibration!

I was hoping that cutting it back to just above the tee's branch would not affect the seal of the tail pipe, but didn't want to be too proud to ask!
I think your common sense is working perfectly! Cut away and leave about 3/4"-1" inch gray pipe sticking into the brass tee and you should be all set.
