9 yr old Whirlpool side-by-side with ice maker... Model ED2PHEXNT00... Freezer not working. Compressor will only run 15-20 secs before shutting off. Condenser fan is running, cleaned condersor coils, checked evaporator coils and they are clear of ice. Took relay off and shook it... someone had told me that the relay would rattle if broken... no rattle. I can hear the relay click when the compressor shuts down. Is low gas the most likely problem?

The compressor is cutting off on overload, most likely because relay is stuck. Replace that relay and you should also replace the run capacitor, if that model has one, and they usually do. The contacts on the start relay can weld together causing the start winding to be held in too long, and the run capacitor can be bad making it unable to start and kicking out on overload or starting and running at a high amperage (more likely) and going out on the thermal overload.
