    No, the part I'm talking about is underneath, it connects the motor to the drum. Looks something like this.

    Swaneks, that knob of which you speak very rarely is a problem. Does the machine make any noise when it should be spinning? Lid switch could be bad and need checked with a volt/ohm meter.

    Often the coupling is bad, and you often can find pieces of it underneath and in the center of the machine of look with a flashlight.

    P.S. It would help some to know the name and model number.
