I need help with a movie title.

I think it's an 80's movie about a boy growing up in a small US town during ww2.
The boy loses a neighbor in the war who was like a big brother to him. He sometimes plays a bugle for the funeral of fallen soldiers.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I finally tracked it down when I remembered one of the actors.

Richard Farnsworth is the actor in "The River Pirates" or "Good Old Boy: A Delta Boyhood"
