    Tub converted to a shower.
I'm having my tub converted to a shower, drain is on left side with the tub knobs. Do I need someone to go downsteps and make an opening in my laundry room to get to the pipes for my upstairs bathroom, the one I want to convert to a shower?

Couldn't the knobs in the tub be disconnected and showere kit fit over that?

    Thanks

    Hi Spooner

As long as the shower pan has the drain hole on the left then it is possible that the you/plumber will not have to access the pipes by opening the ceiling downstairs. However, with that being said, if the pipes are old and need to be replaced back a distance from the new shower then you/plumber will have to open up the ceiling to do the work... no getting around that!

Water pipes, as long as they are copper (or pex, cpvc, etc.) should not require any work from below.

You or the plumber will know more once the tub unit is removed.
