I have a 1995 Toyota Camry. The car shuts off when put into drive. I have changed the fuel filter and cleaned the throttle body. What could be the problem?

Thoughts:
. Check for codes.
. Go over the ignition system. If you have not replaced the coil and Ignition Control Module (ICM) in the last 125,000 milles or 10 years, I would replace them. Change the platinum spark plugs (NGK only), if they have more than 50,000 miles on them.
. Check each cylinder's compression.
. Check the Neutral Safety Switch's alignment and operation. Neutral safety switches send a signal to the ECM to allow the engine to start and to engage the transmission.
