Washing machine drain line is overflowing when water first begins to evacuate the machine then it seems to correct itself but still that is gallons of water on my floor. What can I do to fix that? Drain pipe is PVC leading into metal pipe. Catch in in PVC part.

That can happen when you have more water coming out of the machine than going into the drain. Is this a laundry tub that it is draining into or directly into a sewer drain on the floor or other?

Other we are on septic but septic was recently maintained. Going to try to snake the straight pipe and see if there is any lint or anything like that for now. Washing machine is at least 15 yrs old.

If the washer standpipe is a older inch and a half one them. Today's washer pumps are too powerful and put out too much volume for the pipe to handle periods
. Here is what I did when I was the same problem.
I made the drain a closed system by connecting the washer drain pipe to the standpipe with duct tape or a compression fitting. This forces the washer discharge past the standpipe and the trap into the main. I have had this set up for years with no problems.
And have never got negative feedback from any customer that I have done this to.
