    Time delay relay problem
I have a motion detector that when tripped, will power a motor, 12v relay and a time delay relay (which in turn will power a motor). I originally set this up so that when tripped, the motion detector would supply power to everything else and would cut power after elapsed time. Everything worked as planned except when the time delay relay first receives power, it trips and then starts its cycle. The time delay relay I have has an adjustable delay and an adjustable trip time. I need this to work this way so that I can get the end effect timed correctly. I can't figure out how to get the time delay relay to work the way I want without tripping as soon as it receives power. A friend of mine says it can't work the way I want and the relay has to have constant power and be tripped by the motion and will delay whatever I set it to but will not do both functions. Is there any way to get the desired effect - for example when tripped, delay for 20 seconds, then trip for 5 seconds?

What kind of relay are you using?

This looks like a single stage relay assembly. They delay is has is for how long the relay remains "on". It doesn't show anything from the page you provided as to a delay from source.

The desription on that page only speaks of single not double delay. (quote)

There are 2 pots on this relay - 1 determines how long between each trip and the other determines how long the trip stays on. (from what I have found.) have diagram in email but can not attach here.

This tells you how to post a picture here if the diagram is in picture format.

If positive and negative is power through while the com/nc is the trigger where are you connecting the aux circuit to ?

    It should be com/no.

If I connect it to the n/o wouldn't it be getting power/ work while not triggered?

Never mind, dumb question. Will both functions still work wired this way?

I think you need to maintain power to the DC In(Red and black), and use relay contacts to make or break the Common to the NO or NC, whichever your design with a relay to start the cycle.
