There is a hissing sound form my toilet tank but the sound is intermittent , how do I get rid of it?

Take some food coloring and drip it in the toilet TANK only... leave for an hour and then check the toilet BOWL to see if the color is present. If the color is present then the flapper in the toilet tank is bad and needs to be replaced... ;)
