Me and my boyfriend have been together for about 2 months now and we messed up and now I'm pregnant. There was consent on both parts to have sex. But now that I'm pregnant he could and can go to jail. I was told that since I'm pregnant and at the age of 16 will be 17 in a little less then 5 months that me and him could get married with my parents consent and it would keep him from going to jail. Is this true?? By the way I live in the state of Florida.

If a parent has sole custody or the other parent is dead, the permission of one parent is sufficient. If a person is under the age of 16, the marriage license has to be issued by a county judge, with or without parental permission. If a minor's parents are both deceased and there is not an appointed guardian, he/she may apply for a marriage license. A minor teen who has been previously married may apply for a license. A minor who swears that they have a child or are expecting a baby, can apply for a license if the pregnancy has been verfied by a written statement from a licensed physician. A county court judge may at his/her discretion issue or not issue a license for them to marry.

Okay that helps but what if he goes to jail before the court approves. My grandmother is a horrible person she is trying to press charges and plans on having him arrested. Which I think is stupid because that would be taking the farther away from the child. But is there any for sure way to prevent him going to jail over me? I mean I love him. I've know him for 3 years I'm in love with him. She has talked to an investigator and she said that she would see sure to it that he goes to jail... So is there any for sure way that we could get married before he goes to jail. And if so what all do me and him need to bring with us

It is illegal for anyone OVER the age of 24, which means he is under 24 and 16 year olds are allowed to give sexual consent in your state. Your grandmother might be able to get him on something but it doesn't look like she can on rape.
You are going to have to get a letter from a physician and take the steps you can toward getting married.

Do you know what image could possibly get him for, if anything?

Did you stay overnight with him? Did you cross state lines with him? Did you drink or do drugs with him? Anything that is illegal for a minor or did not have parental consent for such as the things I just asked. It's weird how the law works that the age is 16 for consent but you better follow your parents rules otherwise.

From what I can see he is safe from prosecution. There are two different FL statutes. In one the age of consent is 18 but there is a close in age exception that makes him safe. The other sets the age of consent at 16. So either way his is safe. But he should consult an attorney to make sure.

And I would not marry him to save his sorry azz from jail. You have only known him 2 months. Clearly he started dating you for sex. This is not something you build a marriage on.

Also look from it from grandmothers side, I would say she is not a evil person, but angry and disappointed. And she blames the 20 year old, since often a older male can talk a younger girl into things, ( yes girl will think it is her idea) they want her to prove she loves him, and things like that. We have those type of questions here all the time.

And no, if he broke a law before you were married, merely marriage will not keep him from being arrested. So do not marry because of that.

At this point, you need to consider how do you plan on raising a baby, how are you planning on paying for the birth. Does he have a good job ? Does he have his own apartment ?

What are you going to do, to try and stay in school ?

Questions about the child, should be asked, not about what happened in past

And caring for my kid I can't get wic and food stamps. Paying for doctors bills Medicaid. And technically I don't think we broke any laws but my grandmother does.

If he has a good job and his own house, then don't assume that you will qualify for Medicaid and WIC and food stamps. Those are all welfare programs, our tax dollars, and they count household income, not individual. Not to mention that you will be married by then.
There is a huge leap financially between a single guy supporting himself and a married man supporting a wife and child.
The two of you need to sit down and discuss this in detail, and get your facts together.
What is the number one thing couples fight about?
Money.
I suggest a notebook to write down every diaper, every bottle, every single expense. No cute outfits (for either of you), no movies, no restaurants, no ipods, no more fun expenses for the next 10 years at least.
AFTER you get good prenatal care started, of course.

Ok, that make a bit of a difference. But frankly, I have to wonder about an 18 yr old who dates a 14 yr old. Or even 19 and 15, because that's what you would have been 2-3 years ago.

She said they were friends. They only started dating recently. She could have just hung out with him and mutual friends in school at 14 and 15.

She said they; "use to go on dates all the time". So even given they weren't dating during all those three years, since she is now 16, it would suggest they dated when she was 15 or even 14.

But even if it was just hanging out, what would you think of an 18-19 yr old who was hanging with a group of 14-15 yr olds? Something just doesn't feel right about this whole situation.

I know the 15 year old girls back when I was in high school hung around the 17-18 year old basketball players. She needs to deal with where it has all brought her to this point. They want to get married and while that won't get him off any charges the grandmother tries to bring against him, it seems that he wants to step up and be the family man he should be now that she is pregnant.
