    Free adoptions for cats
What is the best way to adopt a FREE kitten in the state of Georgia specifically in Cherokee county? I have learned through looking that free can be very expensive. HELP I am a retired senior looking for a free kitten to love and give a home to.

You don't actually get "FREE"... all pets need shots and shots cost money. If you can't afford that how will you afford a vet when it needs one.. or the food before then?

Free usually means from a private home, not a shelter, where you are paying for shots and spaying and sometimes other overhead. What you can do is call around and ask about an older cat, or keep looking in papers and on boards at supermarkets, or put an ad in the paper yourself.
You can also plead your case as a senior at any shelter, and see what they say... but kittens are not nearly as easy to get as older cats.

You really don't want a kitten, methinks. Kittens climb drapes, scratch furniture, and make all sorts of messes as they explore. Your best bet is to watch the classifieds for an older cat (older than 3 years) needing a loving home. Older cats are usually calm and peaceful, sleep a lot, and will be good company for you.

Nothing is free. You need to think about costs associated with having a cat - vaccines cost over $100 a year. A sickness can tack up more than a thousand dollars in a few days - and most vets require payment immediately.

I also live in Cherokee County. In June or July, Animal control had a free week of adoptions of, I believe, adult cats and dogs. All were spayed or neutered, had shots etc. I think they are on Univeter Rd near Canton.
