    Outlook Nightmare!
    Hi,

I am using MS Outlook 2002 SP2. When I connect to the internet via wireless at my office I can send and receive without a problem.

I come home and connect via ethernet cable, click send and receive mail comes in but it will not send! It keeps asking me for my login details over and over. No settings are changed.

I am not a lost cause on computers, but I am out of idea's

It is my personal e-mail account and has nothing to do with my work (just in case you thought it was a server VPN thing, It will not work through a VPN either)

Any Idea's would be much appreciated!

Do you have your personal account setup?

A couple things to check, 1. Your outgoing email server is incorrect, perhaps referencing your work's instead. And 2. You need to login in to the outgoing server with the correct username and password.

You might be mixing the work's server with your personal username/password, and vice versa.

You should also check whether you need to log on securely.

You might want to try contacting ScotGem who is listed as a computer expert on this forum.

    Yes mate

Account is set up I have used it for years, always online though, I have only just started to use it for work, I downloaded the POP3 settings at home and installed them. That's when these problems started.

I took it to work for the IT guy to look at it and it worked no problem. It just won't work at home. I am not changing any settings what so ever that's why I am so confused!

It is a BTYahoo account and they have loads of different settings to try and I have tried them all. Changing the smpt port from 25 to 467 with SSL on, 250 SSL off, 586 SSL off and a few more I got from some help forums but they were pants.

Keep thinking for me mate I'll try anything.

Is this on the same PC or different PCs? If the problem is only Sending, then there has to be something wrong with your SMTP server info.

    Thanks for your quick reply.

Its on my laptop, and yes it was the SMTP settings. All sorted now, here's what was wrong (if your interested that is)

My pop account is from an old BT Dial up I was on, It works fine at work because they are with BT Broadband.

I am with NTL cable at home and they block all smtp.whoever.com's (on all ports it turns out) except their own without telling anyone, Naughty eh!

Simple solution swapped mail.btinternet.com with smtp.ntlworld.com

    Roberts your mothers brother!

    Thanks for your time

Generally, I recommend using your ISP's SMTP for all outgoing mail, even if the e-mail account has its own SMTP.

But I knew it had to be something related to that.

P.S. for future reference, I, like many of us, do not answer questions posed via PM or E-mail. If you want to attract someone specific to a public posts, its permissible to e-mail them a link to the thread.
