Any ideas? Mostly good horror ones?

Personally I'm a fan of Steven Kings writing style... and most of his fit that category.

How about Edgar A Poe? The Monkey's Paw is one of the scariest stories ever written.
And a lot of his stories are pretty short.

Definitely Stephen King.
