Does it matter which direction a Wirlpool dryer drum rotates.
It rotates counterclockwise.
I reversed the wires and it still runs counterclockwise

It is a new machine. I installed the cord and it ran counterclockwise.

Its an A/C induction motor... they are wired and designed to operate in a specific direction... thats why reversing the wires didn't change the direction.(AC is AC and doesn't have a polarity in the sense you were thinking).. however I'd recommend putting the wires back the way they were originally because there is a hot, common and return on A/C (two hots if you are in the USA on a 220V outlet... as most driers I've seen are not 110V.
