    what hight should i make my ridge beam
    hello , I am building a shed that is 10x16 I want to install a gable roof and I don't know how high to build the ridge beam. Is a 10\12 pitch OK or too steep ? I also want to intall a reverse gable over a 5' opening at one corner of the 16' span

    10/12, wow. Sure you can... but why? I'd hate to have to shingle it, especially bending the top row over the ridge.
    I'm in New England and we can go as low as 4/12. My house is 4/12 and shingles don't lift off in high winds, and snow slides off OK.
    How about 5/12? Height will be 25". 10/12 would be 50".
    The houses in the super windy Alps have very steep roofs. The wind gets broken up when it hits one side, so it tumbles over the other side without sucking the roof off from a vacuum.

    ... also, the dimensions shown are approximate.

    Actual height will depend on lumber used and seat cut or heel height where rafter connects to wall.
