I am 19 years old and I am currently a undergraduate. I am horrible at math and I failed my algebra course, I received a "D". I usually get A's and B's, I was slightly upset about failing my class. I wanted to take my science courses this semester because they're pre-quest for my major. I am also working part-time so I can't go to school fulltime. The pre-quest alone take two years to complete and the program/course for the major are an additional two years. I am currently living with my parents and I would like to receive my (BS) before I turn 24.

Yes, I actually took college courses while I was in high school. I got a "D" in political science. I hadn't taken government classes yet and didn't understand a darn thing.
You have some choices: retake the class or maybe you can do what I did: I went to a community college and took Political Science on a pass/fail basis. All I had to do was take a 100 question exam and pass it. That score was transferred to my University and then I was done :). Speak to your counselor about the options available to you.

Just retake the class and hopefully you will do better.

I am taking my last math class this semester. Thank God! I totally empathize what you're going through. Math is not my strongest suit... or many people for that matter.

Teacher is right. Speak to an advisor regarding your schedule and try to work something out.

In my schools a D is not failing, it is merely a poor passing score. If it is passing and will allow you to keep going, it merely lowers your GPA and then just slightly after a lot of classes.

I am working full time, traveling Asia and taking 6 college hours per semester from a US university. Along with being a full time husband and father.
So it all can be done, just a matter of allowing time.

I also wonder about the statement "I am working part time, so can not do school full time"
Why?? A large percent of college students work part time, and go to school full time.
When I got my first degree, I actually worked 40 or more hours a week and took a 15 hour per semester college schedule. It is all a matter of working on the times.

Check if your school has pre algebra classes you can take, which will help you be prepared when you do retake your algebra class. Also see about getting a math tutor to help you with algebra. You can check with your academic advisor or with student services.

First of all, do not drive yourself into a corner because you failed a math class.

I'm a medicine major and I had NEVER failed a class in my life before college. The concept seemed like a far matter to me. Something that happened to really stupid or lazy people.Well I learned better in my first year of college as I failed 3 classes. (humanities, communication and history) Also I barely passed the calculus class I needed to take (with a D, quite like yourself) What I did is I've retaken those classes next year (squeezed my schedule a bit) and the following summer. BUT what really helped was I went and found the tutors for the classes (usually graduates who are making money out of teaching the college courses) and sat through their classes right before the finals. They give you hints and shortcuts to remember stuff.

At the end, it's all fine now and I'm doing my second year without problems.

My advice to you is look for tutors. Some are expensive some are cheap.
