I have a rescue maltese mix who is sweet as can be when she wants to but snarls and bites unprovoked How do I stop this

How old is she? Is she spayed? Are there any other dogs in the house? When does she usually growl at you? What leads up to it? Is it while you're playing with her, trying to take a toy away from her, feeding her, or just random?
