I'm trying to figure out what a pipe is for coming up out of the concrete floor in basement. It goes up to first floor turns and heads to rear wall and goes up. Can't tell where after that. It appears our sewer goes out the middle of another wall. Our house is only 3 yrs old. And I didn't think to ask to have plumbing roughed for bathroom. Hoping it means there is a sewer line in floor. Thoughts?

1. Does it exit the roof?
2. What diameter is it?
3. What rooms are directly above it where it goes up the outer wall?

All newer homes are required to have a 2" FUTURE VENT (usually marked FV on the pipe) installed and capped off in the basement just in case the homeowner wants to add a bathroom and/or laundry in the basement down the road.

Here, you would need to have the future bathroom plumbing installed underslab (or on top if you want to use a macerator pump system), but at least you won't have to tear the house apart running a new vent for the bathroom... just connect the bathroom vents to the future vent and you are all set on that anyway!

Check to be sure the FV is 2"... let us know what you find.

It looks like it may exit the roof. The kitchen is above but there isn't anything from the kitchen connecting to the pipe. I'm guessing 6 inches... It is the same size as the sewer pipe exiting the house. Is it a vent? What could it be venting? Any chance it means we have a sewer pipe under the floor??

4" pipe is max. size for most residential homes.

I'd contact the builder to be sure!

I don't see FV on pipe or any other sort of label. And it is a 3inch pipe not 6inch

I'm figuring you have a basement drain and a future vent all in one. That means that you would still need to locate/install the plumbing in the floor, but at least there is a pipe for the bathroom to connect into. Vents would connect into the 3" as a future vent. I would still contact the contractor... ;)

Mine was a 3" thin wall pvc that the first owner had the contractor install from basement slab all the way up through roof for a future radon exhaust. I recently cut in and installed a radon fan to complete the job. The previous owner had clued me in 7 years ago when we bought the house from him, or I would be still scratching my head.

I was thinking radon as well as sewer/vent, and that is EXACTLY why I twice suggested contacting the original contractor... only way to be sure here! Good addition to the thread, smearcase... ;)
