Filing taxes for someone who changed status from OPT to H1-B during tax year 2006

If you changed visa status prior to 2 July 2006, you must file as a dual-status alien.

If you changed visa status after 2 July 2006, you CAN file a dual-status return, but you can also file as a non-resident alien, which is a simpler return to file.
