    Hp pavilion recovery<windows root>system32\hal.dll
I made a mistake of not burning my recovery disks out of the system. Now I have a problem with the system and it is showing this error that

Windows could not start because the following file is missing
System32\hal.dll. Please reinstall a copy of the above file.

Could you please assist so I can get the recovery cds to enable me restore the system back to normal. I have my academic work in the system and it is not what I can just get a go at and have it done again.

    Cheers

    Dan

Usually at the bios booting screen, you will have the option to press a function key to access the recovery partition.

This function key will depend on the computer manufactuer, HP, Dell, etc. As an example, Dell uses F12 to enter the boot menu which should let you boot to the recovery partition.

What computer do you have? It should be something similar.
