My mum, age about 49, is sufferin from back pain. As in back bone there is slip of L5. She has been consulting with a doctor and she had been treated with injections. Still she is suffering from pain and I don't know what the hell to do. I can't bear the pain that she is going through.

We can't say your mother is right for surgery! Surgery is not only last resort, it's a very serious and risky procedure UNLESS you go to a place that specializes in, and is well known for back surgery.

She should be getting physical therapy such as whirlpool tub, and be doing special exercises (gentle ones while lying on her back), as well as keeping her weight down. If her doctors haven't been doing that, then she isn't getting the best care. Assuming that the injections are cortisone, there is a point after which the nerve is pinched in by bone and injections don't work. If she isn't given prescription pain killers, she could alternate Tylenol (pain) and ibuprofin (inflammation), which work differently. Sit in warm baths. Try to walk around the house every hour and not lie or sit constantly.

She should look for an alternative Medicine chiropractor. Surgery and drugs should be the last resort.

She might take her X rays to a chiropractor for a free initial look, but a chiropractor cannot help once the vertebrae have closed in around a nerve. And a chiropractor needs to be a GOOD one, who will tell the truth if he or she cannot treat it.

Chiropractor would be my first choice also, along with things like acupuncture for pain.

AGAIN - and I am someone who benefited a lot by a chiropractor - it can be very dangerous to go to one for certain back conditions, if the chiropractor isn't one who will admit that the treatment is not suitable.
