When I Try to Change my IP Address it says Media Disconnected?
Hi. I have a dynamic IP address. The only reason I want to renew this IP address is because a game says I have to in order to log back into it. Now, I'm going to tell you nice and clear how the game locked me out.

This game ( called MSP ) says I cannot log in as my computer is using an IP address I have used in the past that has had a previous offence to MSP and the user was locked out. But now I have a new account that has done nothing and is a victim of that user's behaviour and not mine. This is not their fault, as I can see now.

Please tell me how my computer can stop using this IP address so I can log back into my account.

Knowing how you connect to the internet would be useful as these IP addresses are managed by your ISP and cannot be changed locally.

I use a modem to access the internet.

Everyone uses a modem to access the Net. The question is whether you dial up, use cable, DSL or what?

But, as noted, your IP is assigned by your ISP when you connect. There is nothing you can do about it. If you use a broadband connection, then its really hard to change it, unless you shut off your modem for several days.

Sorry, I thought you say a modem is a broadband. So yeah, I use a broadband. Seven days? Wow! But yes, this answer was helpful. Please respond again to this if there's any other ways.

I said several days, not seven. But it depends on your ISP. Most will not release an IP for at least 3 days. Plus, since most subscribers don't need to renew, the IP may not be used for a longer period and when you connect I will try to give you the same IP last assigned.
