Dedicated outlet vs. GFCI in Laundry room?
What is the current NEC, and what is the difference?

Current NEC code is not the issue. You need to know the what edition of code is being used by your "LAH" for your area.

For example, the 2014 is anticipated for this Fall. I live in Virginia we are currently using the 2008 edition of the NEC. We will move to the 2011 edition of code when the new Building code announces and references the 2011 edition of code.

The washer should have a single outlet, non GFI.

    Please sir, is this Homework?

Are you saying it can be duplex? Needs to be GFI? or Hopefully you aren't asking a specific code?

Am curious, Thanks Stan, kiddin' about the homework..

Well, there is no code saying it needs to be a single receptacle, or even a dedicated circuit. There is a code however saying it must be GFI if within 6' of a laundry sink. There is no exception.
