My best friend Tamia's parents are having a little trouble with money and with each other. Tamia's mom wants to live with her mother, but if they do that, Tamia won't live in my neihghborhood (that's the only time I see her because she's in high school and I'm in middle), she'll go to a different school, and she doesn't want to live with her mom anymore. I just want to know if she can move in with me. Her parents are good friends with mine and I was wondering how it would be possible to make it happen. Tamia's grandma said it was illegal and that Tamia's mom could get arrested for it. I don't know a lot about Georgia state laws or anything, so I need answers. Thanks! ;D

What does Tamia's mom want her to do?

It would not be illegal if Tamia's parents agreed to it and signed a document giving your parents temporary Guardianship.

It would be illegal without that.

Grandma is mistaken. As long as Tamia is being cared for, there is not a problem.

Perhaps Grandma is saying this because she wants to diplomatically tell you two girls "no".

I took it as grandma meant Tamia moving with her and her mother would get Tamia's mother arrested for allowing it. Either way I am sure Tamia's mom is not in favor of it and if she is you have to do it the way Scott said.

Grandmother just does not want her to do it.

There is no law against it, as long as both her mother and father agree and allow it.

In fact that is very common, that a child live with a family friend, to finish a school year. I even allowed my oldest son to live with a friend, his senior year of school, when we had to move.

So as long as everyone agrees, (parents and child, and other parents) no issue at all
