My roommate & I signed a lease together. I sustained an injury at work and am unable to work. I can't afford my half ofrent so he gave me 30days to move out. Our landlord did not start the eviction process & my roomie had planned on getting a new roommate. Am I still responsible with having proof of this in writing?

They will have to formally evict you if you do not move out because you can not honor the lease.

What does that mean?
You want to stick the expenses of your free loading on your poor roommate? Each of you is liable for the entire rent; the landlord doesn't have to go after you for your half. He can go after either one of you.
It would be highly unethical of you to stay.
The LL has to evict when both of you are on the lease, but that doesn't give you the right to do this to your roommate, who did nothing wrong.

Have you filed WC or disability? Someday presumably you will get some back compensation, so borrow from family now and pay the rent, or go home now.

Since you are both on the lease, the roomie can't evict you. Your roomie can, however, sue you for your share of the rent. If the roomie can't pay in full the landlord can evict you both. However, the landlord can agree to let you out of the lease so the roomie can replace you.

In either case, you will owe the rent until a replacement moves in.
