    Salman,

You will have to delay filing your return, but you WILL be able to file jointly with your spouse AND claim your children as dependents by filing a joint return under the First Year Choice program, as explain in IRS Pub 519. That includes being allow to claim the Child Tax Credit.

The withholding from your check are driven in part by how you completed the Form W-4 and the state withholding form.

Social Security (6.2%) and Medicare (1.45%) are flat rate taxes withheld at the percentages noted.

If you want to reduce your withholding, re-submit the W-4 and state form and claim MARRIED status with TWO allowances.
