As the remainderman in a life estate deed, how do I get in my name, D. C. Filed?
I am the remainderman in a "life estate" deed. I filed the death certificate, the records show that my father is the grantor, and the "death certificate" is the grantee... how do I get this deed in my name so that when someone pulls up the record it will not show... father's name (LE) me (REM)?

Can I ask the register of deeds to modify and put in my name only now?

Hopefully you bought more than one (notarized) d.c. Take one to the deed office.

A piece of paper cannot be a grantee. Do you mean that you & your late father are the grantees?

In most places the official in charge of the register of deeds ("registrar" would be this person's title perhaps) cannot change recorded instruments. But anyone reviewing the record, if the death certificate is included, will see that you are the owner now.

Make sure you have multiple copies of your father’s death certificate so that if you need to jump through a few hoops you’ll be prepared. Maybe this article will help you out with some further guidance.
